Western Snowy Plover Parent and Chick
The male Snowy Plover is responsible for the care and safety of the chicks for their first month after hatching. He watches his chicks as they feed on insects in the sand dunes. If danger arises, he calls to the chicks and they gather under his wings. Because of an unleashed dog, this father had only one chick left from a brood of three.
