Soft Coral in Fiji

One of the species that we find in the warm Pacific waters is "Soft Coral". This is an animal that doesn't make the hard calcium-based skeleton that we see in the Caribbean corals. Because the water around Fiji is nutrient-rich, the corals are often out of their protective enclosures as the feed. We've seen soft coral in orange, red, yellow or sometimes purple. It looks like a small fuzzy shrub.
